Belhaven NC. Very nice town. Approx. 4 blocks from marina is a restaurant called Gingerbread Bakery. Serve breakfast and lunch. The walk is just right and the food is great. Ed at the marina said you have got to eat at the Fish Hook. Last night I did and it was more than I could eat. Great meal.
Pictures of main street, of cement crabs around town, and of high end golf carts, these are street legal and there are a bunch of them. Nice town.

In marina at Belhaven, NC. tonight. Videos are crossing Pamlico river/sound. Perfect day after anchor out last night. Don’t know about tomorrow, maybe some rain. Next big water for me is Albemarle Sound 15 to 18 miles across, two days before I get there. Will try and cross this one on the weekend when there are more people out and about. Just in case.

On July 2nd I was walking back to my boat and a gentleman asked me if that was my little red boat. We walked to the boat. His name is Bernie Harberts. He is associated with TownDock a Internet news service here in Oriental, NC. Keith Smith and his wife Melinda started this news/Internet service here in Oriental years ago. Bernie took pictures and and asked about the trip.
The next day Bernie and Keith come by in a inflatable and we talked some more. The day before Bernie gave me the web info for TownDock and his personal site Riverearth.com

In the coffee shop I saw a book Bernie had written. I then became curious and went to his web site. He is a amazing gentleman. At no time during our conversation did he bring up the things he has done. This is what I know now, but there may be more.
In early 90′s he was a steeplechase rider.
1998-Sailed around the world alone in his steel cutter “Sea Bird”
2004-traded in his boat on a mule and pony and walk/rode from the Atlantic Ocean across America to San Diego, California. Pacific Ocean
2007-With a mule named Polly and a small four wheel covered wagon traveled from Canada to Mexico.
Bernie it was a honor to meet you.
His web site is: Riverearth.com

I am in Oriental Harbor in Oriental NC. This is a charming community, and have enjoyed my stay here. Saturday there was a 4th of July parade with fireworks that evening. The Bean is a coffee/bagles shop that it seems everyone stops by sometime during the day. There is a interesting North Carolina Dragon small display scattered through this community. I was told there are seven of these at different locations. Hand painted rock of a dragon hatching from a shell.
