I am at Oriental, NC.  Got here a day early.  Will do update on Marina tomorrow.  Had a interesting thing happen while at Morehead Marina.  Bob and Sandie Howd walked up to the boat in the marina.  Bob said we heard about you through a friend that met you in Southport.  We were eating in the restaurant right beside the marina and saw the name Dalamar on the boat.  Just came down to say Hi.  We talked for a little while, then they invited me for supper that evening at their home.  They have a lovely home along the inter coastal waterway.  Sandie fixed salmon/potatoes etc.  Salmon is my favorite fish as my family knows in Illinois.  They both are officers in the local sail & power squadron, Bob gave me three books on boating and a power squadron cap.  Sandie thank you for the great meal.  You both opened your home to me and I won’t forget that. Wish you both the best in the coming years.

Made it to Morehead SC. Am at Morehead Gulf Docks. Weather in low
80′s. Nice day except 15 to 20 mph
Winds. Made for a rough ride today. Hope to leave tomorrow and head to
Oriental NC. Have a slip there thru the
4th. Picture of marina and early morning before the wind came up. Got to move today and back to normal, silly stuff gone.

In the slip beside me is a Bluewater Yacht. About five times longer than my  boat. This is their home port and the owners are Bill and Linda Sewell. Bill said it’s a condo on the water, and that it is. Bill gave me a magazine and newspaper to read. The newspaper was new, not read and refolded funny, no holes from coupon clipping. Thanks Bill. Wish them the best.
The picture of a crab pot pulled out of the water in the marina is the first one for me. I have seen a lot of crab pots but this is the first I seen up close with crabs in it. Asked the man what kind of crabs are these, he muddled something, don’t know what he said, maybe he said who is this goofball. Well I got a picture.
I need help with this one– I bought a six pack of Snapple ice tea. This is top shelf ice tea. I normally gulp my ice tea. But it appears you are to sip it like the British do their tea. Well I not about to buy a sipping cup so I just gulped it down when no one was looking. Here is where I need help– On the inside of the Snapple cap there was this interesting statement. Butterflies smell with their hind legs. I am 62 years old and did not know that. Then I thought why do I need to know that?  Who did that research, tax dollars at work? How can a person use that knowledge, make money off it-save my life if butterflies become aggressive. I do not ever remember a butterfly flying backwards toward me to take a rear legged sniff. If anyone knows why I need to know that, let me know.
Then again maybe I have smelled too much salt water and moved to the edge. Waiting for your reply.

I am at Dudley’s Marina in Swansboro, NC. Will be here till Monday, then heading to Moorehead City I think. This marina is OK. Has a car I can use and charging me $11.25 a night is ok with me. The bathrooms get a Pelican rating of 6. Glad I am away from Surf City. The women in two piece swimsuits and lack of swimsuits about put this old man out cold on his back, on the dock with a smile on his face. Nowhere did I see any health signs warning of the stress that could generate. Pictures coming into the marina, one picture of how I had to run my electrical hookup as long as the dock doesn’t fall over with rotten pilings. The gentleman caught a King Mackerel and let me take his picture.

I am in Surf City, NC. At Beach House Marina. Nice place, good dockage. There is a Hardees right beside the marina, never saw a fast food chain this close on the complete trip before. All stores-grocery, restaurants, etc.  are within two blocks. Will be leaving tomorrow heading north.
Picture is Atlantic Ocean early morning and one of my big go fast boat in the slip.

Left marina this morning heading north. Day was perfect, temp low 90, very little wind. Arrived at Dockside restaurant and marina approx. 2:00 pm. This is close to Wilmington, NC. Today was a quiet day, very little traffic, and the day after father day made it a good travel day.

Steve and Rene’ Slack sailed around the world over a 6 year time frame. Took their time and enjoyed every place. Their cat boat is lovely and is named Shiraz. They just arrived back in the states and I was lucky enough to meet this wonderful couple.

I am at Southport marina in Southport NC. Nice marina with restaurant. Will give restrooms a pelican rating of 8. No pictures, a little afraid someone will walk in and not sure how to explain what I am doing taking pictures in the bathroom.

Here they remove and put boats in the water with a fork truck. Picture is where they stack the boats in the rack.

Today left marina and headed north. Traveled 28.6 miles, the last hour in heavy rain. Am at Blue Water Point Marina on Oak Island in North Carolina. This is some place south of Southport NC. Will leave in morning heading to Southport  . Will stay at Southport so I can plan my run up the Cape Fear river. Numerous people have said this can be a rough 12 miles if you are not careful.
The marina I am at is very nice. Has a great restaurant on site. I have a slip that is protected from wind and waves. Pictures are of marina and of waterway getting here.
